Mid-semester exams just wrapped up, but for some reason, the break is weeks away…
Everyone seems to be hitting that plateau. Petal to the metal - we were all hit with a mountain of assessments, pushing us to our limits. The lecture notes were looking less neat, and the uni fits were looking more comfy - but wait, the sun is beginning to peek out through the clouds and the birds are singing from the trees. Spring is finally arriving!
Don’t drop the ball during this long stretch until Midsem break, you will thank yourself. Romanticise uni, and keep up with your study as we transition into this new era - turning over our new leaves.
Cleanse your mind and release the negative energy from assignment-stress with these five study tips - let's start our Spring Reset!
Tip 1: Spring cleaning is due! Tidy up your study space.
Finally, you've just finished your last Midsem for the season! It's time to reward yourself and destress - the only correct option being: watching the latest episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty. You walk into your study to grab your iPad, but instead you're greeted with a mountain of rouge printouts, empty Redbull cans, and tissues (used to wipe up your tears) sprawled all over your desk.
No judgement at all. We’ve all been there.
Clean up your study space to reinforce the idea of a “reset” to yourself. After tackling a multitude of assignments, it’s best to remove that negative energy you left behind and start off fresher and better for the rest of the semester - out with the old, and in with the new.
Declutter your desk
Organise your notes into respective subjects and key study areas
Use desk organisers to keep stationary and books in place

Spring cleaning isn't exclusive to just your study area;
Put away the pile of clothes you have formed on that one designated chair in your room, donate old clothes to charity and open up those curtains to let in some natural light.
Tip 2: Reconnect with nature.
In winter, studying felt like being trapped in a prison cell. Almost falling asleep at your desk with the heater blasting, or sliding underneath your doona when you're on “break” is no longer the motive.
Incorporate short, healthy rest breaks when studying - so why not take advantage of the sunshine and blossoming trees?
After a long winter, take the time to appreciate the new beautiful conditions:
Step outside and bask in the sun for a 5-minute rest break
Go for a quick walk to recharge your brain
Do yoga and stretch in the park to enhance focus
Organise a picnic with friends to destress
Nature can enhance your cognitive function by reducing stress and resetting your brain, helping you come back to your study with a more focussed and efficient mind. Rests are almost just as important as study, so make the most of mother nature this spring and go back to your roots!
Tip 3: Channel your inner gardener - Bloom on study apps.
It might be easy to lose track of your goals after the Midsem assessment rush. Using study apps like Flora or Forest, can help reinforce those good habits and foster a distraction-free environment. These apps grow virtual trees and flowers when you successfully stay focussed for a session - perfectly on theme with the spring season!
Doomscrolling can be way too tempting, but by implementing these apps that combat phone distraction, you can gamify the way you study to make it more enjoyable and fulfilling. The more successful study sessions you complete, the more your garden will grow into your own masterpiece.
Tip 4: Eat Seasonally. Fuel your body.
The Spring season means that the best fruits and vegetables are now in season. Not only are they the sweetest crop, they are also nutrient-dense foods that are perfect for aiding the brain for studying.
The best options for brain-bettering foods:

Berries
Rich in antioxidants that improve memory, helping you remember the content from Week 3. Keep a bowl of mixed berries on your desk while you study for the best healthy sweet treat.
Leafy greens
Greens like spinach, cabbage and bok choy are perfect for their vitamins, folate and antioxidants that support brain function and memory. Use them as a base for your salads, adding a protein and source of healthy fat, and you'll have a nutritious meal to satiate you for hours while you study.
Avocado
Finally the avocados are no longer rocks of green wax. Use avocados to make a classic avo-toast, providing healthy fats that will support blood flow to the brain and help with concentration.
Keep seasonal produce washed and prepped in the fridge, making it more convenient and encourage healthy eating when you're in a rush.
Tip 5: Spruce up your Spring Wardrobe.
Look good, work better
Sometimes it's the simple things in life that bring joy: dressing up, getting a coffee/matcha and going to uni. Winter weather may have encouraged you to just chuck on the same pair of sweats and hoodie, but a wardrobe refresh may be the best motivator to keep attending classes and feel cute when studying in Baillieu Library.
Try incorporating these trends to spice up your wardrobe:

Spring colour palette
soft blues, blush pink, butter yellows
Patterns
polka dots & stripes
Light fabrics
sheer tops, linen pants and light cover ups
Spring is one of the best seasons. Don't let the Midsemester blues get you. Use these five tips to keep motivation high and efforts higher. Despite needing a breath of fresh air after the rush of assessments, its never too late to start preparing for the exam season that is slowly blooming!
And if the start of this semester has been a bit rocky for you, its not too late to keep trying and restart.
Leave Winter behind, and bloom into the best student this Spring.
